TotalEnergies has dismissed any form of fear that the leak from its Egina Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) would impact on shoreline or communities.
The leak was said to have occurred while crude was being loaded from the vessel on November 15.
In a statement on Thursday, Charles Ebereonwu, country communication manager at TotalEnergies, said the incident did not affect crude oil production at the facility. Adding that the sheen has been treated with an appropriate response.
“This is not a massive leak and the sheen has been treated with the appropriate response that resulted in a reduction of most of it. No shoreline or communities have been impacted.” Ebereonwu said
He further said the crude oil production at the facility “was not affected by the incident”.
Meanwhile the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) had said it is collaborating with the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) and Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) from the crisis management room (CMR) on the incident.
Egina FPSO is a 200,000 barrels per day capacity equipped with a storage capacity of 2.3 million barrels of crude.
