Oando Clean Energy Appoints Ademola Ogunbanjo as New President and CEO

Oando Plc has announced the appointment of Ademola Ogunbanjo as the President and Chief Executive Officer of its subsidiary, Oando Clean Energy Limited (OCEL). This strategic appointment signals a renewed focus on sustainable energy solutions in Nigeria and across Africa, aligning with Oando’s broader commitment to green energy transformation.

The company confirmed the leadership change via LinkedIn, underscoring Ogunbanjo’s pivotal role in advancing OCEL’s climate-friendly projects. Previously serving as Executive Vice President at OCEL, Ogunbanjo worked closely with Dr. Ainojie Alexander Irune, former President and CEO, gaining invaluable experience in renewable energy initiatives.

Ogunbanjo’s extensive career spans banking, telecommunications, and oil and gas sectors, bringing with him a unique blend of expertise. His career includes roles in consulting and corporate leadership, where he has made significant contributions to strategic development within and beyond Nigeria. Ogunbanjo has been active in mentoring young entrepreneurs through non-governmental organizations like The Fate Foundation and Designing Futures, as well as contributing to The Oando Foundation.

With an academic background that includes a specialized MSc from Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, and certifications from the London School of Economics, Ogunbanjo is well-prepared to lead OCEL’s charge towards decarbonization and energy diversification. His past leadership roles include serving as General Manager for an indigenous $2 billion Exploration and Production (E&P) company, overseeing departments critical to business operations.

A testament to his commitment to change, Ogunbanjo also ventured into Nigerian politics in 2018 as a gubernatorial candidate under the Alliance for a New Nigeria (ANN), further broadening his experience in leadership and governance.

Oando Plc has expressed strong confidence in Ogunbanjo’s leadership, noting that his extensive expertise and vision are well-suited to drive OCEL’s ambitions of fostering sustainable energy solutions and reducing Africa’s carbon footprint.
