NNPCL Reiterates Commitment to Lasting Peace and Prosperity in Niger Delta

The NNPC Ltd has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with host communities in the Niger Delta to achieve lasting peace and economic prosperity.

This was stated by the Group CEO Mallam Mele Kyari during a dialogue session held in partnership with Hon. Gift Johnbull, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (South-South). The event took place at the Igurubia Square Ultra-Modern Town Hall in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Host Community members at a dialogue session with the Niger Delta communities held at the Igurubia Square Ultra-Modern Town Hall, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on Thursday.

The session is part of a series of citizen assembly engagements leading up to the upcoming COP29 Conference in Baku, Azerbaijan, scheduled for November.

Represented by Mr. Sani Kabo, Head of Business Services for NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS), Kyari emphasized that this engagement is a crucial step toward fostering unity and promoting development in the region through the Third Phase Amnesty Program.

Kyari highlighted NNPC Ltd’s dedication to ongoing dialogue with traditional leaders, former agitators, and youth leaders to address local concerns and rebuild trust across the nine Niger Delta states. He pointed out that the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) mandates the allocation of 3% of NNPC Ltd’s operational expenditures (OPEX) for community development. This initiative, he stated, therefore aims at ensuring that projects align with community priorities while investing in skills acquisition, empowerment, and sustainable livelihoods.

“Our mission is clear: we are committed to fostering lasting peace, creating economic opportunities, and transforming the Niger Delta into a model of unity and progress. NNPC Ltd stands with the Niger Delta as we work towards a prosperous future built on mutual respect and collaboration,” Kyari concluded.
