The Major Energies Marketers Association (MEMAN), has said that the refining industry in Nigeria is on the brink of a transformative era, and poised to become a refining powerhouse in Africa. The Chairman MEMAN, Mr. Huub Stokman said Nigeria has the ability to rise to its full potential as a refining giant. “We should celebrate the achievements and approach challenges with a focus on long-term success rather than short-term issues. Nigeria is on its way to becoming a true African refining powerhouse” Stokman said.
The MEMAN Chairman, highlighted the importance of Health, Safety, Quality, and the Environment (HSCQ) in ensuring the safety of workers and customers while maintaining consistent product delivery and availability.
Stokman, in his address, Tuesday, at the MEMAN quarterly press engagement titled “Introduction to Electric Vehicles” emphasized the need for collaboration, competition, and alternative plans to address challenges in the energy supply chain. “We must focus on delivering affordable, high-quality products safely and sustainably,” he said.
The Chairman stressed that Nigeria’s growing refinery landscape, including the Dangote refinery and others being refurbished or developed, represents significant progress.
He pointed out that while there are startup issues and challenges it is expected that industry stakeholders remain optimistic. “The reality is that refineries are complex systems. It takes time to reach full capacity, but we are moving in the right direction,” the MEMAM Chairman added. He also commended the efforts of industry players who are already loading millions of liters from refineries, acknowledging the professionalism shown by the teams involved.
The MEMAN Chairman who is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NNPC Retail, emphasized again the need for collaboration among marketers which he cited as essential for maintaining the supply chain and delivering the best services to customers. He also pointed out the importance of competition, with the belief that healthy competition will drive better products and services at affordable prices.
As the industry continues to evolve, he urged stakeholders to maintain communication and cooperation to ensure progress and deliver energy solutions that benefit the country and its consumers.
