The Nigeria Energy Leadership Summit 2024 kicked off with a strong emphasis on breaking barriers in the global energy era, bringing together leaders from the Nigerian and international energy sectors. The event, focused on the theme of clean energy transition, highlighted the growing importance of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and digitalization in transforming the African energy landscape.
In his keynote address, Ade Yesufu, Exhibition Director, commended Nigeria’s progress in energy transition and emphasized the nation’s pivotal role in global economic growth, driven by its abundant natural resources and growing appetite for innovation and investment.
“Over the past decade, we have shifted focus to reflect the importance of renewable energy and energy efficiency,” he said, adding that the summit will explore practical solutions to accelerate the region’s transition to a clean energy future.
According to him, the summit is expected to center around two critical themes: policy frameworks and investment attraction. Discussions will delve into policies that stimulate renewable energy development and explore regulatory processes to ensure seamless grid integration, fostering an environment that supports clean energy infrastructure.
He pointed out that one of the summit’s highlights is the launch of the Green Energy Initiative, a new program designed to recognize and support innovative ideas aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 7—affordable and clean energy. The initiative aims to engage entrepreneurs across Nigeria and encourage groundbreaking solutions in the renewable energy sector.
Furthermore, Yesufu emphasized that the gas sector also remains a key focus, with Nigeria’s vast natural gas resources seen as a catalyst for economic growth and energy security. Adding that the summit will feature discussions on gas-to-power solutions and explore investment opportunities in infrastructure projects aimed at expanding Nigeria’s power network.
He maintained that the event bringing together over 20,000 participants from 16 countries, connecting experts, policymakers, investors, and industry leaders in an effort to shape the future of energy in Nigeria and beyond.
The Exhibition Director expects that the event will foster partnerships between government, industry, and technology providers furthering the nation’s clean energy transition goals.
He expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Power and the Lagos State government for their continued support. According to him as the summit progresses, Nigeria is poised to take a leadership role in the African energy market, paving the way for a sustainable and innovative future.
