…….by Ben Ndubuwa…..
The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has said that Africa and Nigeria in particular is strategically positioned as well as her natural resources to lead in the global campaign for low carbon emissions.
Osinbajo made this assertion today at the on-going Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES) in Abuja. In his remark before the opening ceremony of this year’s exhibition, the Vice President noted that Africa being a low emitter of carbon should lead the global pack for energy transition.

For Nigeria, Osinbajo insisted that gas must remain the transition fuel. According to him the the Nigerian energy stakeholders should not support the campaign that gas should be part of the fossil fuel to be defunded “For us gas is crucial not because we have it in abundance but it is the only alternative for cooking” Osinbajo said.

He cautioned that Nigeria or Africa should not be seen as a victim in the whole process of Energy Transition. Adding that Nigeria must do more for the future.
