NCDMB’s Dr. Obinna Ezeobi to Speak at UNN 14th Jackson Annual Lecture

The Mass Communication Department of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Enugu State, has invited Obinna Ezeobi, Manager of Media and Publicity at the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), as the guest speaker for its 14th Jackson Annual Lecture.

Ezeobi, an alumnus of the institution, will deliver a lecture on the theme “Local Content, National Development and Strategic Communications Imperative” at the event scheduled for February 20 at the Princess Alexandra Auditorium, UNN.

In a letter conveying the invitation, Prof. Michael Ukonu, Head of the Mass Communication Department, described the Jackson Annual Lecture as “a yearly academic festivity that brings together media scholars, practitioners, policymakers, students, and the general public to keep abreast with the ever-evolving field of communication studies.”

Prof. Ukonu emphasized that Ezeobi’s extensive experience in media, corporate communications, and the oil and gas industry makes him well-positioned to provide insights into the role of local content in national development. “We expect the lecture to highlight effective strategies for promoting sustainable development while offering valuable perspectives on local content implementation,” he stated.

Ezeobi has built a career spanning over two decades across the oil and gas sector, corporate communications, media, and advertising. He holds a doctorate degree in Energy Communications from the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The Jackson Annual Lecture is named after John Payne Jackson, an Americo-Liberian journalist who founded and edited the Lagos Weekly Record in 1891, one of the most influential newspapers in pre-independent Nigeria.

Established in 1961, UNN’s Mass Communication Department was originally known as Jackson College of Journalism, making it the first institution in sub-Saharan Africa to offer journalism courses.

The lecture is expected to attract prominent media professionals, communication scholars, and students eager to engage in discussions on local content policies and strategic communication in Nigeria.
