The Nigerian Association for Energy Economics (NAEE) holds its 16th NAEE/IAEE Annual International Conference/Dinner Awards Night from the 9th to the 11th of July, 2023, at the PTDF Conference Centre, Central Business District, Abuja, with a central theme titled ‘Energy Evolution, Transition and Reform: Prospects for African Economies’.
Since the inception of the NAEE Annual conference in 2008 numerous experts, professionals, industry players, petroleum and energy regulators, business moguls, eminent personalities and well-to-do Nigerians have graced the events sharing ideas, deliberating on salient issues as well as current energy challenges and proffering far reaching solutions which the 2023 conference hopes to achieve even more. The conference usually spans two days of qualitative discussions and divided into different parts viz, the Opening Ceremony, the Concurrent Sessions, Dinner and Awards Night, the Plenary Sessions, the Annual Petroleum Roundtable and the Annual General Meeting.
This year’s opening ceremony will be chaired by Engr. Gbenga Komolafe, Commission Chief Executive, Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC); the Welcome Remarks will be given by the Host, Professor Yinka Omorogbe SAN FNAEE, President, Nigerian Association for Energy Economics (NAEE); Opening Speech will be given by Prof. Jean-Michael Glachant, the President of the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE); the Keynote Address will be delivered by HE Omar Farouk Ibrahim PHD, Secretary General, African Petroleum Producers Organization. Remarks will also be given by the distinguished Guest of Honour, Prof. Abubakar Sambo, OON, FNAEE and the Chief Host, Dr. Bello Gusau, Executive Secretary, Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) as well as the sponsors of the conference.
There will be two Plenary Sessions and twelve separate classes for the Concurrent Sessions with seasoned discussants on different topics centred around energy economics in the course of the two days. The Plenary Sessions shall hold on Tuesday the 11th of July, 2023 as follows:
Plenary One with the theme ‘Economic Security and the Net-Zero Carbon Emission Target: Balancing the Conundrum in Africa’, will be moderated by Prof. Yinka Omorogbe SAN FNAEE, President, Nigerian Association for Energy Economics (NAEE).
Plenary Two with the theme ‘Innovative Solutions to the Global Energy Trilemma and the Financing of Energy Transition for Climate Justice’, will be moderated by Prof. Adeola Adenikinju, Head, Department of Economics, University of Ibadan.
The Annual Petroleum Roundtable will also be held on Tuesday the 11th of July, 2023 with the theme ‘Managing the Consequences of Subsidy Removal on Energy Affordability’ and will host a Special Guest of Honour in the person of Ambassador Gabriel Aduda, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Petroleum, and will be moderated by Prof. Wumi Iledare, Executive Director, Emmanuel Egbogah Foundation.
The Lead Speakers include Prof. Doyin Salami, Mrs. Funmi Ogbue and Engr. Ahmed Farouk. The Panelists are Ms Anita Omoile, Dr. Ahmed Salihijo, Dr. Oge Modie, Mr. Ayo Ademilua, Dr. Felix Amieyeofori, Dr. Timothy Okon, Engr. Effiong Okon, Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, Mr. Gabriel Ogbechie, Prof. Akin Iwayemi, and Dr. M.M. Ibrahim.
The Annual Dinner and Awards Night shall be on Monday the 10th of July, 2023 and will be held at the PTDF Towers from 7:30pm to 9:30pm, sponsored by Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF). There will be four categories of awards presented as follows:
- The Fellowship of the Associations will be awarded to Prof Ben Obi Vice President (Conference and Publications) NAEE; and Dr. Reginald Stanley FNIM former Executive Secretary, Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory, Agency (PPPRA).
- Public Service Award to Engr. Simbi Kesiye Wabote, Executive Secretary Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB).
- Corporate Service Award to First Exploration and Petroleum Ltd.
- Energy Correspondence Award to Jeremiah Kingsley, Business Reporter, Guardian Newspaper Nigeria
The Annual General Meeting will be held on Tuesday the 11th of July, 2023 and will mark the end of the two-day conference.
