The exit of Engr. Saleh Mamman, as the Minister of power who was accused of his failure to halt the incessant national power blackout is now replaced by Engr. Abubakar Aliyu, a civil engineer and two-term former deputy governor of Yobe state state.
He has been announced as the new minister of power, third in that capacity during the President Buhari’s six years in office.
Described as an accomplished Engineer, and a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Aliyu is a member of the Council of Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).
He once said this; “The irresistible lure for public service led to my appointment as the Deputy Governor of Yobe State for an unblemished period of ten and half (10.5) years. Also served as overseeing Commissioner of Health, Commerce, Integrated Rural Development as well as chairman of several high-level priority task forces and committees in the state.”
Mr Abubakar D. Aliyu hails from yobe, potiskum Local Government Area.
An engineer by profession. Mr Abubakar Aliyu attended Central Primary School Jimeta, where he had his First School Leaving Certificate in 1979. He now proceeded to GSSS Monguno in Borno State where he obtained his West African School Certificate in 1984.
Aliyu later proceeded to Kaduna state Polytechnic where he got a National Diploma (ND) in Civil Engineering in 1988 and HND in High Ways and Transportation Engineering in 1993.
In 1999 he obtained his Bachelor of Engineering in Civil and Water Resources Engineering from the University of Maiduguri. He is currently a Fellow in the Nigerian Society of Engineers.
Mr Abubakar Aliyu had worked as a Technical Officer in Borno State Ministry of Works in 1988 to 1991, he became the Principal Engineer and also Head of Engineering Department in 2004, and Supervising Project Engineers Yobe State Ministry of Housing in 2007.
Aliyu was also the Managing Director, Yobe State Housing and Property Development Corporation in 2009, overseer State Ministry of Health Yobe State, and overseer State Ministry of Commerce Yobe State.
He was so the overseer State Ministry of Integrated Rural Development Yobe State and Deputy Governor Yobe State form 2009 to 2019.

- Distinguished Service Award By Thinkers Magazine
- Meritorious Service Award By The Task Force On Immunization And PHC
- Best Deputy Governor Of The Decade Award By North East Star Magazine
Mr Abubakar D. Aliyu is married and blessed with children.
