The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has applauded the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN) for its transformative contributions to the energy industry and urged the association to champion a more sustainable and inclusive oil and gas sector.

Speaking during PETAN’s 30th Anniversary Celebration in Lagos on Friday, the Executive Secretary of the NCDMB, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, represented by the General Manager, Corporate Communications and Zonal Coordination, Mr. Esueme Dan Kikile, highlighted PETAN’s critical role in fostering local content development. He noted that the association’s advocacy efforts were instrumental in the enactment of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act of 2010.
“For over three decades, PETAN has been a beacon of innovation and unwavering commitment to the growth of indigenous participation in the oil and gas sector,” Ogbe said. “Its efforts have bolstered the competitiveness of Nigerian businesses and elevated our country’s standing in the global energy industry.”

Ogbe emphasized that PETAN, which comprises over 100 member companies generating a combined annual revenue exceeding $500 million, has achieved remarkable milestones. However, he urged the association to prepare for emerging challenges in the evolving energy landscape.
“The road ahead presents new challenges that require stakeholders to continuously evaluate and adapt,” he said. Addressing the theme of the celebration, “The Role of PETAN in Navigating the Next,” Ogbe underscored the need to support emerging companies in navigating the complexities of the sector.
“Seasoned PETAN member companies could mentor newer entrants by sharing industry insights and best practices to accelerate growth,” he suggested. He also proposed the establishment of a PETAN Start-up Fund, financed by contributions from member companies, to aid new entrants in the industry.
Ogbe reaffirmed NCDMB’s commitment to supporting PETAN’s mission, stating, “Together, we will advance the ideals of local content, drive innovation, and create a more prosperous future for all Nigerians.”

The event featured the presentation of awards to individuals and organizations for their outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s oil and gas industry. The NCDMB was among the honorees, recognized for its dedication to promoting indigenous participation and fostering sustainable development in the sector.
Dignitaries in attendance included the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri, and the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, among others.
The anniversary celebration further cemented PETAN’s reputation as a driving force in Nigeria’s energy sector, with stakeholders emphasizing collaboration and innovation as key to navigating the industry’s future.
